Why is SSEG Municipal registration and approval essential?
To certify that the installation is according to national regulations and safe to operate. It is also to ensure that these systems will isolate safely from the municipal network in order to avoid electrocutions or any life threatening accidents. According to municipal by-laws, the SSEG system must be registered and approved. If it fails to be approved by the municipality, this will result in a fine to be paid by the property owner, as well as the power being switched off.
“Furthermore, the City’s Electricity Supply By-law, 2010 and Amended 2017 states that no electricity generation equipment provided by a consumer in terms of any Regulations or for his own operational requirements shall be connected to any installation without the prior written consent of the Director of the EGD.” (City of Cape Town)
